Where's my I-pod?

It always seem that I'm like one year behind all the technological freebies. Everytime, it seems that the class after me, always gets the coolest stuff from school. When I left high school, the incoming class got a new computer lab. After my freshman year of college, the freshmen got HP PDAs. Now this . How about you give them a Sony Wega while you're at it and free trip to Tahiti? You hear me SONY? USC IM needs PSPs and AIBOs for their incoming grad students. This is purely for intensive educational and research purposes. How about a few Xbox 2 Dev stations, Microsoft?

Zen on the 5

Sucking pesticide on the I-5 for 5 hours can be quite a transcendental experience. There's nothing like cruising highway at 90mph with a 90 degree breeze blowing in your face and l33t chip tunes blasting in your stereo. I took the weekend to make my first solo road trip down the 5. I needed to secure an apartment in SC. Yeah, found myself a nice apartment in the middle of South Central two blocks from campus. Rent sounded really good for the area and it comes furnished and renovated, so I already signed for it. I'm really moving on up, going from a town house in La Jolla to an apartment in South Central. From UCSD's large posh campus to USC's small traditional campus. Oh well, less walking. After checking out some of USC's campus, I was kinda disappointed. I started to miss UCSD. Walking through the eucalyptus groves with friends. Napping on Library Walk. Studying from the top of Geisel. Running to class from Camp Snoopy. Pulling all nighters from the dungeons of AP&M. Ok, I could do without the last one. In retrospect I realized that these small moments are the most precious, because I remember and cherish them more than the stuff I learned in class. And with a second chance at college, I want to make the most of my grad experience and studies. My prospects and expectations are both exciting and scary. I'm hoping I can step up to the challenge of studying post-grad in a field that's barely matured and still support myself. For three years I'll have the chance to explore what interests me, dream with a purpose, and create on my own terms. This may be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I can't pass it up.

On Saturday I watched a Ben Affleck comedy called "Paycheck" with my dad and bro. I've learned that when you plan on saving the world from a nuclear apocalypse, always come prepare with a manila envelope filled with random knick-knacks. You never know when a paper-clip, a quarter, and hairspray may come in handy. Yes, keep your inventory full at all times. The next day, I chased the sun back to Fremont. For $60 in gas money, I think that driving rather than flying was well worth it. It was like being pampered in a spa for 5 hours and binging on junk food along the way, all while watching a beautiful sunset. I find it all really relaxing. I also got to check out the wildfires while stuck in a traffic jam. If I ever get my photo database up. I'll post them.

I think ever since I arrived in Fremont, I've pick up the drifter's bug. I want find an excuse to see new places and go people watching. It's one of the thing I plan to do while I'm in SC. Ironic, that for my whole life I've lived in LA County and I don't know LA. Says alot about what I really know about my hometown. And I thought life was going to be boring after college.
